-> 10/29 - Q-Unique recording album with Korn's Fieldy as Capital Q
Q-Unique has been quiet as of late, but don't mistake his silence for inaction. Q-Unique has been working on his new album Street Metal under the group name Capital Q, which includes Korn's bass guitar player Fieldy.
"It's the soul of metal and the soul of hip-hop," Q-Unique told HipHopGame.
Q-Unique does not want fans to get Capital Q confused with rock-rap bands like Limp Bizkit and Rage Against the Machine. "This is not just me rapping over heavy metal beats," Q-Unique said. "That's been done before and that's not what we're doing. We're both very extreme with what we do and we wanted to be smart with this, because it's been done before. This project is surreal. It's trippy."
The first single by Capital Q, "Killin' Myself to Live," has Q-Unique looking at the world through a rockstar's perspective. The video for "Killin' Myself to Live" is already completed.
"Hip-hop needs that moment of evolution and this is my way of evolving," Q-Unique said. "This is my contribution from my angle."
Q-Unique is also working on a more hip-hop centered album. The album, which is still untitled, is close to completion.
Captial Q's Street Metal is tentatively scheduled to be released sometime around June or July of 2008.

It's one piece of the many things I do, and this will be one of my favorite pieces." "It will be certain record stores that will be scared to deal with it. The record label is gung ho, and it's ready to go."

-> 10/26 - T.I. Free On Bail
A federal judge in Atlanta on Friday approved T.I.'s release on $3 million bail but ordered the rapper placed under house arrest pending his trial on felony weapons charges.
The 27-year-old MC, whose real name is Clifford Harris, will be restricted to a home in suburban Henry County, and his movements will be tracked 24/7 by a private monitoring service, which he'll have to pay for. He will only be permitted to leave for hearings and court-approved medical appointments.
"I want to thank all the fans for their support," the rapper told reporters as he approached his SUV following the hearing. "Due to the severity of the situation, I can't say much more.
"I want to get all of this behind me."
U.S. Magistrate Judge Alan Baverman did not disclose further information about the location. The property doesn't appear to belong to T.I., whose own residence is in College Park.
The double Grammy winner is also barred from possessing any firearms and having any contact with witnesses or informants in his criminal case.
Baverman cautioned T.I. not to "do anything that will undermine" his case, or "a number of very bad things will happen."
The rapper was collared on Oct. 13 in the parking lot of a metro Atlanta shopping center while allegedly trying to buy a cache of weapons. The arrest, which came only a few hours before T.I. was due to perform at the BET Hip-Hop Awards, capped a two-week sting orchestrated by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
T.I. was attempting to purchase three machine guns, two silencers and a pistol, using his bodyguard as an intermediary, according to authorities.
As a convicted felon, it's a federal offense for him to possess any firearms. A grand jury in turn indicted T.I. on two felony counts, possession of unregistered weapons and possession of firearms by a convicted felon.
Because he has a previous conviction on drug charges in 1998, as well as several probation violations, the "Hurt" emcee could be facing some serious prison time if found guilty on the weapons rap—up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine per count.
Prosecutors had previously opposed T.I.'s bond request, arguing that after the arrest, agents found marijuana in his vehicle and several loaded firearms in his home.
The next hearing is set for Nov. 5.

-> 10/26 - Assemblyman to Universal: Change Nas' Album Title Or Lose Investments
A Fort Greene assemblyman said this week that Universal Music Group must change the name of rapper Nas's new album, "Nigger," or risk losing $84 million in state investments, the Brooklyn Paper reports.
"[They are] profiting from a racial slur that has been used to dehumanize people of color for centuries," said Assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries (D–Fort Greene), a former entertainment industry big-wig.
"It is time for Nas and other hip-hop artists to clean up their act and stop flooding the airwaves with the N-word."
According to the Paper,Jeffries called on Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli to withdraw the $84 million that the state pension fund has invested in Universal and its parent company, Vivendi.
"It's a staggering amount of money, which at least justifies a review of the appropriateness of the content that is flooding the public," said Jeffries.
Clinton Miller, of Brown Memorial Baptist Church, and Jill Merritt, a founder of the Abolish the N-Word Project, joined Jeffries in his condemnation of the word.
A recent report by state Sen. Antoine Thompson (D–Buffalo) revealed that the New York State Pension Fund has $2.8 billion invested in 16 major entertainment companies, including Time Warner and Disney. That number did not include the state's investment in Vivendi.
Universal did not respond to a request for comment. A spokesman for DiNapoli, who manages the pension fund, said that the comptroller "is concerned about this issue and is intending to contact the company and urge them not to release the album."

-> 10/25 - Jay-Z and Lil Wayne Talk About 'Hello Brooklyn Song'
Jay-Z spoke to MTV today about the American Gangster album.
When asked about 'Hello Brooklyn,' his much talked about collaboration with Lil Wayne, Jay said "it's more of a great record than a lyrical slugfest. It's more a creative, great record than two guys spitting. 'Success' is more of what people wanna look at when you judge that type of [collaborative] stuff. It's me and Nas going at it."
Lil Wayne also told MTV that the song was initially made for his album, Tha Carter, Vol. 3.
"It was produced by my homeboy Big D a long time ago," he said. "Jay heard the song some type of way, and when he heard it, he said, 'Ask the homie if I can get this.' When I was asked the question, I told them it wasn't even a question — he's got it. Everybody in the world knows how I feel about Jay. ... He's the king, utmost respect.
"The song has a sample on there that says, 'Hello Brooklyn,' " Wayne added. "I made it so that I'm talking to a woman and the woman has the traits of the actual place [where the song is set]. I say, 'She love B.I.G. but she like Tupac, and every time I say, "Jay-Z," she say, "It's the Roc." ' Me not being from Brooklyn, I think it's cool because you always wanna know what an outsider thinks of your place."
Jay-Z will embark on a promotional tour, playing five club shows.
Jay-Z's tour will begin at Los Angeles' House House of Blues on November 6, the same day the album goes on sale. It wraps November 12 at the Fillmore in Philadelphia.
During the shows, Jay-Z will perform only material from the new album, which is inspired by -- but not directly affiliated with -- the new Denzel Washington-Russell Crowe crime drama of the same name. It opens in theaters on November 2.
The other stops on his upcoming tour are Chicago (House of Blues, November 7), Baltimore (Ram's Head, November 9) and New York (Hammerstein Ballroom, November 11).

-> 10/24 - Noose Tied Around Neck of Tupac Statue
According to a press release, The Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation (TASF) regrets to report that a series of attacks have taken place at the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts, 5616 Memorial Drive, Stone Mountain, Georgia. The first incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, October 20th, when vandals defaced the building as well as tying a noose around the neck of the bronze statue of Tupac Shakur located in the Center's Peace Garden. The attacks are being investigated as hate crimes by the De Kalb County Sheriff's Office. The second incident occurred at the Center at 2:00 AM Monday morning when the statue was damaged further. A male has been arrested and is currently being held in custody.
The noose hung around the statue's neck is an imitation of other cases recently reported in the media after a surge of hate crimes. The statue was also plastered with handbills of garbled rants that include references to 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina as well as vague threats against various record companies and rappers. The manner of the attack indicates it is the work of one or more individuals.
Says Afeni Shakur, "We thank everyone for their prayers and support. Although our hearts are temporarily in pain, our spirits have already forgiven the perpetrators. Hate comes in all colors and genders therefore we will use this act of hate and ignorance to bring our community together and to pray for the healing of those who harbor such feelings. With God's guidance, the work of the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts and Peace Garden will continue to positively impact and transform our community."
The Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation is now in the process of raising money to construct a fence around the parameters of the Center to prevent these types of incidents from occurring again.
The Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts will kick off its 2nd Bi-Annual Film Screening with a re-dedication service of the Peace Garden on Saturday, November 10, 2007 at 1:00 PM. Following the service will be a film screening and panels from film industry experts. Both events are free to the public.

-> 10/23 - Foxy Brown Put in Punitive Segregation
Foxy Brown has received 76 days in punitive segregation after she scuffled with another inmate at Rikers Island jail, authorities said Tuesday.
Brown was separated from other inmates on Oct. 16, said Stephen Morello, deputy commissioner for public information for the city's correction department.
Brown, 28, and another inmate got into a shoving match earlier this month, said Morello, adding he didn't know why the two were fighting. Neither inmate was injured.
Following that incident, Morello said Brown was abusive toward correction guards and then refused to take a random drug test.
The combined violations, Morello said, earned Brown more than two months in punitive segregation, where an inmate can spend up to 23 hours a day in isolation.
Brown is serving a year at Rikers for violating her probation in a case stemming from a Manhattan fight she had with manicurists in a nail salon.

"I consider myself relevant in the rap game at all times," explains Sig. "After you party and do all that, now the real world kicks in. The pain, the stress, agony. The lessons you learn. Your come ups, your downfalls. The real world--which I deal with in my music--is always relevant. All the shit might go through in the course of a day is on my album. I'm talking about religion, spiritually, getting a piece of mind. All that counts and all that's in my music."

-> 10/22 - Prodigy talks jail, H.N.I.C. Part 2 with DJ Whoo Kid
Prodigy recently went on DJ Whoo Kid's Shade 45 show to discuss his current situation.
"It's serious right now," Prodigy said, speaking of his upcoming 3 ½ year bid for possession of an illegal gun. "The hip-hop cops are all over us, son. I'll be right back."
Prodigy initially faced 15 years for possession of the illegal gun and the D.A. offered Prodigy a 5 year deal. Prodigy talked about how he was initially going to fight the charge because he knew he could beat it, but copped to a plea because the cops were lying on the stand.
"The cops said they saw me moving my hands and all kinds of things that weren't even true," Prodigy said. The rapper also asserted that the gun was in a closed box in his car and the gun was not in plain view.
"All they're doing is making me stronger," Prodigy said. "They don't even understand what they're doing."
Prodigy said he will be putting H.N.I.C. 2 on hold for now and will focus his attention on mixtapes and videos, as he said he would shoot 10 videos before January 9.
Prodigy also said that cops offered him his freedom in turn for planting guns and/or drugs in 50 Cent's car.
When offering advice to other people with dealing with cops, Prodigy suggested people install video cameras in their car and record their encounters with police when pulled over.
When asked if he thought police were following Kanye West, Prodigy responded, "His clothes are so tight you could see if he had a gun on him."
Prodigy will turn himself in on January 9, 2008.
Prodigy also added, "You're making me Malcolm X right now."

According to the Feds, T.I. was arrested after after they learned one of his bodyguards was trying to purchase machine guns for the musician.
The arrest occured only a few hours before the BET Awards held in Atlanta.
Here is the full statement released by the Department of Justice:
Arrest Comes After Harris, a Convicted Felon, Accepted Delivery of Machine Guns and Silencers; Additional Guns Found In Harris' Vehicle and House
Atlanta, GA CLIFFORD HARRIS, 27, an entertainer also known as "T.I.," of College Park, Georgia, was arrested in Atlanta at approximately 2:30 p.m. today by agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), as he allegedly took possession of three machine guns and two silencers. Three other firearms were found in the vehicle HARRIS was driving. ATF also executed a federal search warrant at HARRIS' house at 4XX Creekview Lane in College Park, finding six additional firearms in his bedroom closet.
United States Magistrate Judge Linda T. Walker issued a federal criminal complaint after the arrest and search, charging HARRIS with the felony offenses of (1) possession of unregistered machine guns [and silencers] and (2) possession of firearms by a convicted felon. HARRIS will be held in federal custody over the weekend and then will make his initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Alan J. Baverman at the United States Courthouse in Atlanta on Monday, October 15, at a time to be determined by the court. The United States Attorney's Office and ATF will hold a short news conference afterward at a location to be determined.
"Machine guns pose a serious danger to the community, which is why they are so carefully regulated," said David E. Nahmias, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia. "The last place machine guns should be is in the hands of a convicted felon, who cannot legally possess any kind of firearm. This convicted felon allegedly was trying to add several machine guns to an already large and entirely illegal arsenal of guns. Thanks to the good and quick work of ATF, he is now in custody and his firearms have been seized."
"This investigation developed very quickly," said Vanessa McLemore, Special Agent in Charge of ATF's Atlanta Division. "We learned only this Wednesday that the cooperating witness was allegedly buying the machine guns for Harris. The cooperating witness told Harris on Thursday that he had obtained the items, and on Friday Harris made it clear that he wanted them delivered to him today. Harris then agreed to meet and took possession of the machine guns this afternoon. He now faces serious federal charges and a potentially long prison sentence."
According to U.S. Attorney Nahmias and the information filed in court: On October 2, 2007, an employee of a federal firearms licensee advised ATF that an individual was seeking to purchase a machine gun without registering the weapon as required by law. The individual was directed to an ATF agent acting in an undercover capacity, posing as a machine gun dealer. Last Wednesday, October 10, 2007, the individual was arrested by ATF after purchasing three unregistered machine guns and two silencers from the undercover agent in exchange for $2,200 and a pistol. The individual then agreed to cooperate with ATF, including with respect to his purpose for obtaining the firearms.
The cooperating witness (CW) advised the agents that he was purchasing the machine guns on October 10 on behalf of CLIFFORD HARRIS, aka "T.I.," an entertainer for whom the CW had been working as a bodyguard since July 2007. The CW admitted to straw purchasing about nine firearms for HARRIS and about 17 firearms for other persons on previous occasions. Firearm purchase records confirm that the CW has purchased about 25 firearms over the past 18 months. The CW said that HARRIS gave him cash to buy guns on four occasions. HARRIS asked the CW to purchase the firearms for him because HARRIS has a prior felony conviction and therefore cannot lawfully purchase or possess firearms under federal law, while the CW could lawfully obtain guns.
According to the CW, he purchased a Calico 9mm pistol on September 6, 2007, and delivered it to HARRIS at HARRIS' house on Creekview Lane, where he also saw multiple firearms in a safe in the walk-in closet in HARRIS' bedroom. The CW next purchased a Smith & Wesson .500 caliber revolver for HARRIS on September 18, 2007, delivering it to an associate of HARRIS' to give to HARRIS. On or about September 26, 2007, the CW purchased seven more firearms, three rifles and four handguns, using $7,000 in cash provided by HARRIS, and delivered the firearms to HARRIS at the Creekview Lane house.
Finally, last Wednesday, October 10, 2007, HARRIS arranged for the CW to pick up $12,000 in cash from HARRIS's bank, telling the CW to use the funds to purchase machine guns for HARRIS. The CW was arrested later that day when he attempted to purchase three machine guns and two silencers from the undercover ATF agent.
After agreeing to cooperate with ATF, the CW had a series of telephone calls with HARRIS, which were recorded by ATF with the CW's consent. On Thursday, October 11, 2007, the CW called HARRIS to say that he had"everything for you," referring to the machine guns he was supposed to purchase on Harris' behalf; HARRIS replied affirmatively.
On Friday, October 12, 2007, HARRIS called the CW. The CW asked HARRIS when he wanted to take delivery of what the CW had, and HARRIS told the CW that he would take delivery today, Saturday, October 13, 2007.
After the CW left HARRIS a message this morning, shortly after noon HARRIS called the CW to arrange the pick up. At approximately 2:22 p.m., HARRIS met with the CW in a shopping center parking lot in midtown Atlanta to take possession of the firearms. The meeting was recorded by ATF. The CW entered the vehicle that HARRIS was driving and displayed to HARRIS the two silencers and three machine guns that the CW had purchased from the undercover ATF agent on October 10. When the CW explained the function of one silencer, HARRIS said "no flash, no bang." The CW and HARRIS also discussed the selector switch of one of the machine guns, which switches the gun from semi-automatic to fully automatic fire. HARRIS also asked the CW for "change leftover" from the $12,000 that he provided the CW to purchase the firearms.
HARRIS was arrested without incident. A subsequent search of the vehicle located three other firearms, including one loaded gun tucked between the driver's seat where HARRIS had been sitting and the center console.
Shortly after the arrest, ATF agents executed a federal search warrant for HARRIS' house at 429 Creekview Lane in College Park. In a walk-in closet in HARRIS' bedroom, the agents found six more firearms (three rifles, two pistols, and a revolver), including three of the guns that the CW had said he purchased for and delivered to HARRIS in September. Five of the six guns were loaded.
Members of the public are reminded that the criminal complaint only contains charges. The defendant is presumed innocent of the charges and it will be the government's burden to prove the defendant's guilt beyond a reasonable doubt at trial.
This case is being investigated by Special Agents of the ATF, with assistance from the United States Marshals Service, the Atlanta Police Department, the Fulton County Police Department, and the Fulton County Sheriff's Department.
Assistant United States Attorneys Francey Hakes and Todd Alley are prosecuting the case.

-> 10/06 - Lil Wayne Arrested in Idaho
Lil Wayne has been arrested in Idaho on a felony fugitive charge after authorities in the state of Georgia accused him of possessing a controlled substance, authorities said.
The 25-year-old rapper, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr, was arrested after his concert on Friday at Qwest Arena in Boise.
Because of the type of charge, he was not eligible for bond and probably would not get out of jail to make it to Saturday night's concert.
After his arrest, the jail was bombarded with dozens of angry phone calls from fans, concert promoters and others, said a jail deputy who did not want her name to be used because of the public uproar.
"Every other phone call that we've picked up have been about him - people who have tickets wanting to know where his concert will be, people calling to see if it's true that he's incarcerated," the deputy said.
Lil Wayne is scheduled to be formally charged on Tuesday and will be asked then if he plans to waive his extradition to Georgia, the deputy said.
